Biographical / Historical

S. Wales Dixon was the Supervisor of Recreation from 1914 to 1921. James H. Dillon took over the position, and served from 1921 to 1960. The bulk of the items in this subseries were created either by Dillon, or members of his staff, during his tenure. Some of the folders contain documents from both supervisors. Dixon returned to work with the Park Department between 1934 and 1948, training recreation supervisors. It is possible papers created during those years will be found in the Dillon subseries as well. Letters in the correspondence files were sometimes filed by author, and sometimes by topic. The original order has been maintained.
