Biographical / Historical
Hartford Ballet was founded in 1937 and reorganized in 1964. In 1972, Chilean dancer and choreographer Michael Uthoff became artistic director, a role he would hold for 20 years. Performances were given by advanced students in the Hartford School of Ballet as well as professional dancers, who also toured throughout the country. The Hartford Ballet Company closed in 1999 after years of financial difficulties.
Kristen Corman was a dancer in the Company as well as faculty at the School. As a principal dancer, she performed roles such as Juliet opposite Ted Hershey's Romeo, The Young Girl in "The Green Table," and the Snow Queen in "The Nutcracker." She later taught English as an adjunct college professor.
