The collection contains programs and other publications by the Hartford Stage Company. Programs make up the majority of the collection, which also includes newsletters, the On the Scene magazine, mailing advertisements, annual reports, and other material.

Permission to publish from the collection must be obtained in writing from curator of the Hartford History Center, and a copy of the published work may be requested by the Hartford History Center. The Hartford History Center reserves the right to refuse permission to publish, etc. to those who have not complied with its policies. Use of the collections will normally not be permitted for the purpose of promotion of commercial products and services or political campaigns. Hartford History Center at Hartford Public Library reserves the right to limit the number of photographic prints/captures and to restrict the use or reproduction of rare, fragile, or valuable objects.
Biographical / Historical
Hartford Stage is a regional theater company located in downtown Hartford. It was founded in 1963 by Jacques Cartier and performed its first production, Othello, in April 1964. In addition to performing numerous plays by playwrights such as Tennessee Williams, Shakespeare, Molière, and Edward Albee, Hartford Stage has produced over 70 world premieres of plays and musicals. These include A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, which won four Tony Awards in 2014, including Best Musical, and Quiara Alegría Hudes' Water by the Spoonful, which won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, as well as other productions which went on to run on Broadway and Off-Broadway.
